2007: Year in Review

Although impNERD is still a baby, its predecessor has been around since 2005. And although not every post made on ChickenCamels was technology or webmaster related, I would still post about it every now and then. All related posts have since been migrated to impNERD, so for you to enjoy, here are the top posts throughout the year.

February

The first post of the year on a webmaster/technology subject was YPN Advertised on AdSense. There were plenty of conversations on WebmasterWorld and DigitalPoint about AdSense advertising on YPN, but not many about the opposite. I attempted to get it going.

July

I offered a way to create hard-to-guess but easy-to-remember passwords as a download called PHP mnemonic password creator.

September

September was full of related posts. I started to get into the groove on ChickenCamels and decided to start creating more content. Towards the end of the month I decided to start making plans on releasing impNERD.

There were many complaints around the blogosphere on YPN not paying for international traffic. I offered a way to show different ads to non-US residents while showing YPN to residents at How to Geo-target for YPN.
Yahoo! Mash was the new guy in town in the social networking world. The only way to join is to have an invite. I offered some free for comments on the blog at Free Yahoo Mash Invites.
A new phenomenom started when iPod released the new nano. A talented female starred in a commercial that rocked the web. I posted about it at 1234 iPod Commercial.

5 Amazing Webmaster Forums

The Behemoths
WebmasterWorld - Where I started. The WebmasterWorld library has tons of quality information on PHP, .htaccess, regex, link building, etc. Brett Tabke’s 26 steps to success, although written a few years ago, still holds true today and is a great read.
DigitalPoint - Over the past year I have been using Digital Point more and more. It is a great place to meet with other webmasters and learn new ideas. The moderators are more lenient than WebmasterWorld which can be both good and bad. While posting links to websites, having a signiture, and trading other services is tolerated, so are trolls in some cases. Don’t get me wrong, the moderators do ban users of excessive trollness, but not the minor trolls which can cause problems as well.

Smaller guys, although not that small
Conquer Your Niche - A great place to learn about marketing all niches. Just about anything goes within the genre.
WebProWorld - A forum of all trades: Search engine info, marketing discussions, site design, IT, and eCommerce. On the exterier the site looks incredibly professional. However, once staying for a while some problems exist. The casual troll, repeated questions exist. The good news: some quality discussions take place, signitures, and links are posted.
OZZU The site looks a little crowded with topics stuck together, design, hosting, and coding all under the same headline? Err.. Other than that there is some nice information to be found. Signitures are allowed. If you are looking for paid advertising though, this isn’t the place.

Synopsis:
Definitely check out the behomiths and register. There is some great information to be found and quality discussions. You can find many of the top bloggers and webmasters hanging out, adding to the discussions or just giving great advice.

The “smaller guys” are definitely worth a shot. Even if they aren’t up to your style they are still worth a few posts. The links back to your website are well worth the chance alone. Each forum has great pagerank and will generate a few clicks a day if you happen to become active.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Over the last few weeks there have been some amazing articles.

How to Maximize the Benefits of Guest Posting - Problogger gives the run down of guest posting.

We Found Out Who Ruined Christmas - The cow finds someone being naughty.

The Best of Copyblogger in 2007 - Copyblogger goes month by month telling of great articles released throughout the year.

4 Characteristics of User-Friendly Websites - A great article from DailyBlogTips to help newcomers.

The Blogging Ladder - Work N Play gives the run-down on what blogging is all about.

Merry Christmas - Sidebits gives a present everyone can enjoy (well, at least straight males and lesbian women).

Sorry to keep this weeks list short, but many bloggers took a few days off… including me.
