Oh, Chuck, How I Love Thee

Oh, Chuck, how I love thee, let me count the ways. For those of you who don’t know, Chuck is a show about a super nerdy computer tech turned covert spy. He has no training, and seems to chance into solving his mega crime each week. Someone downloaded a database of bad guys into his head and he and his partners in crime, a surly military guy and a smokin’ hot blonde bombshell, use the brain database to figure out what the evil doers are up to.

You can watch Chuck on Monday nights on NBC at 8/7c. Check out the offical Website.

Chuck is one of those shows that still doesn’t have solid footing because of the writer’s strike.  It was only halfway through it’s first season when the big strike hit, and still trying to find its stride.  Although it didn’t return after the writer’s strike to finish out that season, they did bring it back for a full run the next year.

Each week, Chuck has a flash in his head that goes in super fast motion and we only catch glimpses of it, but if you go here, you can check out each picture, and read a brief description. It makes the flashes that much cooler, and you get to see the little Easter eggs the show’s producers included each week’s episode.

In it’s third season this year, there’s plenty of tension between the bombshell, Sarah, and Chuck to heat things up, and the fact they have been dating as their secret cover for over a year really helps them heat up the screen.

I caught Chuck on a whim, I was going through the Hulu website looking for a full series to watch, and since all the episodes were there I started at the beginning.  I almost never start a show in the middle anymore.  With the internet, there is no reason to, and it gives you a chance to get all invested in the characters.

The one liners are Classic, and the guys in the show are real life video game nerds. From Warcraft references to Call of Duty strategy guides, this show is never without it’s nerdy colloquialisms.

One of my favorite Chuck quotes:

Ellie: Any ideas about what you are gonna do next?
Chuck: Yeah, a few!Ellie: If you say “Pilot of the Millennium Falcon” I will hit you.
Chuck: Why would I say that? That’s absurd! I’m gonna be a Ninja assassin!

The spoilers for this season promise more big bad guys, tension between the star crossed lovers, and of course awesome fight scenes where Chuck makes it out in the nick of time.

If you need more Chuck, then you can check out the Inside Buy More website. It looks like a real retail website, but it’s a social network as well.  You can create an account, view your employee profile, and even play some training games.  I spent about half an hour playing sniper school, so if you need to waste some time, try that one.

Chuck should definitely get picked up for a fourth season, and I for one am very happy. We need more Nerd Herd shows, enough of this True Beauty crap already!

Chuck is one of the few shows on TV that you can feel good watching with anyone – they have a great set of writers on the script together with some great character chemistry.
