GalleryShot is a slideshow widget which takes all images from your latest 10 posts and displays each after a short delay. Each image is linked to the article the image was taken from.

Why use GalleryShot?
GalleryShot is a great way to gain user attention. Everyone loves images, so when they see something interseting, they click.
Entrecard users: Using the ’support impNERD’ feature gives GalleryShot a perfect fit next to Entrecard. What a nice way to spice up your blog, use virtually no space, and gain more clicks.
What does it specifically do?
Specifically, GalleryShot looks through your gallery and grabs all images uploaded to the 10 latest posts. From there, it lines the images up into a slideshow and displays an image every few seconds (you can edit the amount of time in between displays within your wp-admin/settings/GalleryShot).
Download
Current version: GalleryShot v0.2
Changes:
Changed the way thumbnails are handled.
Added post titles to the GalleryShot. (When you place your cursor over GalleryShot, the post title appears)
Previous versions:
GalleryShot v0.1
Files included in download:
- galleryshot.php (main plugin file)
- gs_bg.png (background image)
- README.txt (install information, license, etc.)
Settings
Not everyone wants the same thing. As such, GalleryShot offers several options to better your experience.
- Edit the image height and width. Select your own image size to display. The default image size is 125×125 (works best with “Entrecard like” support).
- Change the amount of time between slide change.
- Choose to show the support impNERD link or not. By choosing yes, a border and blackbox beneath the slideshow will appear (like the image above). By keeping it unchecked, only the image will appear.
How to Install
1. Upload entire folder to your /wp-content/plugins/ folder.
2. Go to your plugins page and activate plugin.
3. Go to options/GalleryShot and change your settings.
4. (optional) Add <?php if(function_exists(’galleryshot’)) { galleryshot(); } ?> to where you wish to display it.
OR
5. (optional) Use the widget setting within design/widgets instead of editing your template.
Update 1: GalleryShot does not create images, only reuses the ones already used by WordPress. ie, if you don’t use a thumbnail in your post, it does not use the thumbnail to resize the image, but the full size. You must also have the PHP GD extension loaded for WordPress to create thumbnails.
Update 2: Fixed thumbnail handling. Thumbnails are now used if GalleryShot is the same size or smaller than your specified thumbnail setting in wp-admin/settings/misc, otherwise the full version is used and resized. You must have the PHP GD extension loaded on your server for WordPress to create thumbnails.

I am one of those image lovers and I guess many others do too. So this another way to differentiate your blogs from being too “wordy”.
Yeah, this is true until everyone started doing the same.

That is so cool!
Okay, I have a question: Can it be used with other blogging platforms? I really want one!

@Carol Thanks! It can’t be used on other platforms though, sorry. You use Typepad right? I have yet to even look at their API for plugins

For plug-ins they have a means for inserting code into the sidebars. Java scripts and such. I don’t know enough about it to be of any help there.
Oh, but I do so love that widget! Nice job.

Now this is very cool! But how much does it slow pageload?

@Dennis Edell it shouldn’t slow pageload much, but it depends on the size you choose. If you choose a size equal to or lower than your thumbnail size (the one you specify in WP Admin), it uses the thumbnail and resizes it to the size you specified in the GalleryShot admin. So small sizes should load rather quickly.
Of course, if you want a larger gallery, it will grab the full image size and then resize it.
Only the first image should slow the page down at all, the other images are prefetched so they should be loading in the background.

I just installed GalleryShot on my blog and it looks great. Not complaining, but it seems to sit ‘left’ in my sidebar. Is there any way to center it more? I did give you some linky love with it too.
