Microsoft has announced its new line of Zune 2 media players to be launched November 13th of this year. The Zune 2 will come in three sizes:
- 80GB for $249. Comes with a large 3.2 inch screen.
- 8GB flash memory
- 4GB flash memory
Both flash memory Zunes will be available in pink, green, black and red and are the smallest in the Zune line. The 80GB Zune is only available in black. The Zune 2 will come with WiFi syncing. Whenever you are in range of your WiFi the Zune 2 can sync to download new music. This feature is also available for Windows Media Player, just load the songs you wish to add to your Zune 2 and it will begin to sync.
The shared song feature will still be available for all Zune’s with the expiration date lifted. However, shared songs can still only be played a maximum of 3 times.
With the addition of the Zune 2 line, the original 30GB Zune’s will now be available for $199.
Along with the launch of Zune 2, MS has added onto its Zune Marketplace. The Zune Marketplace now features over 3 million songs, with many DRM-free music. The store also has a line of music videos, but no movies.
According to Gizmodo, the new Zune line will have tons of additional features.
- New touch controls. Fly through songs with the brush or click of your finger.
- Wireless sync. No need for the USB cord, just sync your computer and Zune 2 using your wireless network and automatically add the latest podcasts, music, pictures and videos.
- Zune Social. A new online social community web site. You can discover, share and leave your own musical mark. Create a Zune Card and profile at Zune.net, then invite your friends and share song recommendations, post comments and browse through member pages to discover new music and people. Send 30 second clips of songs you are currently listening to your friends.
- Zune Marketplace. Over 3 million songs, albums and DRM-free music, music videos, podcasts and more. You can now buy a Zune Pass and get unlimited downloads for a flat rate.
- Wireless Zune-to-Zune sharing. Share your music, pictures, podcasts and more by connecting with your friends Zune. Hold the music on your player for as long as you want with up to 3 plays. You can also add your own wish list of songs you want to receive from your friends.
- Recorded television content to go. Automatically import broadcast content recorded on Windows Media Center to your Zune.
- Built-in FM radio. Tune into your favorite FM local radio station. With the digital tuning capabilities see the name of the song and artist currently playing on digital radio stations.
- Import your music. Automatically import existing music, pictures and videos from iTunes and Windows Media Player.
- Xbox 360 music. Plug your Zune into your Xbox 360 and customize your favorite games soundtrack. You can also stream music, pictures and video from your PC to your Xbox 360 using Zune software and a wireless connection.
- Accessories. There is a full line of Zune accessories available to enhance your Zune experience at home, in your car and on the go. All the old accessories are compatible with the new Zune 2.
- Lossless audio. The Zune now suports lossless audio for better sound quality.
- Glass screens. The new screens are made completely of glass as opposed to plastic in the 30GB Zune.
- Great quality. The new Flash Zunes have exactly the same resolution as the new 80GB Zune.
