Practice Makes Perfect

This is the third article in the series “Santa’s SEM“.

Practice is one of the most important aspects of life. We have been practicing ever since we came out of our mother’s womb–trying to manipulate our parents with crying, then learning to walk and talk. If it weren’t for all the times we fell while walking or stumbled while speaking, we never be able to walk or talk.

Santa Claus is no different. He has changed many times over the course of St. Nicholas history.

The image of Santa Claus has changed a lot throughout the years. Rudolph wasn’t even created until 1939, but has lead the airwaves in Christmas songs ever since.

Although this isn’t exactly Santa Claus, non-the-less the image of Santa’s Christmas has changed. And lets not forget Santa Claus himself came from a bishop handing out gold to poor children.

So what does this mean for you?

Internet marketing (along with search engine algorithms) are ever changing. Just because one day you are rank #1 for [Santa's panties] doesn’t mean you will the next. We must push ourselves and our website to the limit. If something isn’t working, we change it and expand upon it until it does.

How do you do it?

There are many ways to keep up.

  1. Check stats daily. You might notice changes within certain keywords or new keywords to target.
  2. Always work on building links, no matter what. It can be just 10 minutes everyday searching for related weblogs, forums or websites. Blogs and forums are the easiest, just leave a comment (be sure to fill in your URL or have a signature). It doesn’t matter if the website is no-followed since that isn’t what we care about. Sure, link juice isn’t passed, but if someone sees your comment and clicks, thats one free visitor—the same goes for forums. Besides, its a good way to find something new to write about.
  3. Check out Google Trends. It’s a great way to find something new to write about and find the best keywords to use for your site.
  4. Continue to add new content. Talk about the industry or new products. There is always something new to be said.
