This article is the second of the series “Santa’s SEM“.
There are many products out there that are specifically designed to sell during certain seasons and obviously many others that sell best during the holidays. However, just because it is out of season doesn’t mean the concept is dead. Of course the latter product is obvious, but not necessarily the former.
Some might ask, “Why should I have to promote it if it isn’t going to sell?” The answer, while not clear, can be seen with open eyes:
- You’ll receive feedback on your product to help improve upon before the big payday.
- You’ll increase word of mouth by introducing the product earlier and lead up toward holiday sales.
Promoting doesn’t always have to be about money. It can be by press release, link campaigns, or actively whoring your website.
If your product happens to be a website or even something on a website, it is even more apparent:
- You’ll receive more links. Links will help crawl up the Google ranks and potentially bring more customers.
- Buyers love to read information about up-coming products. Interested readers equal more buyers and more word-of-mouth.
- Links! Oh, did I say that already?
Websites, along with products, are like babies. They don’t just pop out and suddenly drive a car, go to college and get a good job. They must be nursed, have their diapers changed and then potty trained all before going to elementary school.
