Star Trek: My Generation

I grew up watching Star Trek: Next Generation. My favorite character was Number One because he is strong, unselfish, and wise. Ok, so it was the beard. I never bothered watching the original Star Trek until much later. Kirk and Spock are two of the most badass characters of all-time. I attempted to watch Deep Space Nine and Voyager, but neither have the same flair as the previous two Star Treks. The newest Star Trek series to debut is Enterprise which stars one of my childhood favorites, Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap).

I have never been too big on the movies. For whatever reason they have always had a different feel – due to the larger budget perhaps. Nonetheless, the second Star Trek: Next Generation film, First Contact, has always intrigued me. In the film, the crew must save their future by traveling to the mid-21st century to stop the Borg from destroying the first warp drive spacecraft. I’ve always thought the story of the first warp-drive spacecraft and the time shortly after should be expanded upon.

The story itself would need to be spiced up. Traveling at Warp 1 throughout space and meeting races one by one sounds great to me, but to others probably not so much. My idea is this to happen but to also create a struggle between races on whether humans should have interstellar communication. As well, humans visiting their first discovered earth-like planet, Earth politics, international relationships, and advancements in warp technology would all make for great episodes.

Hell, the series itself wouldn’t necessarily have to go day-to-day. Episodes could run from between First Contact and the USS Enterprise (XCV 330). Of course, this is all just a pipe dream. If a new series begins it will probably be based on the early years of the original Star Trek.

The last series that was in the dream pipe works was about Star Fleet academy, a sort of follow up to Wesley Crushers days at the academy when got one of his buddies killed. But nothing came of that. If there have been other more recent Trek Tv dreams I haven’t heard of them.

But now that the AntiChrist Rick Berman is out of the picture, maybe someone will go back and make a Real Star Trek series again.
