TweetDeck: How to Use the Super Reply

The super reply is the single best use of Twitter for social media marketers. Using this feature allows you to not only see your replies, but also lets you see who and what is being said about your website.

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a micro-messaging program where you connect with friends, colleagues, businesses, and others. You are given 140 characters to describe ‘what you are doing now’, although no one who has used Twitter for more than a month does this except on a rare occasions-many conversations revolve around current events.

To better understand how Twitter is used, I suggest signing up and start following others. See how they use it and then start using your own technique.

What is TweetDeck?

The TweetDeck website describes it as:

…your personal browser for staying in touch with what’s happening now, connecting you with your contacts across Twitter, Facebook and more.

Essentially, you are given the ability to divide your contacts into groups, add columns to view specific groups, all tweets, what’s hot, replies, or even create a search to follow.

How to make a super reply column

The Twitter search works similar to a Google search. Basically, you type in what you want and it brings up a set of results. The search allows for boolean operators, so you can match more than one word or one of many words.

For a super reply column, we need to ask ‘what do we want to display?’. For someone who owns a website, you may want to display what is happening in your niche, what is being said about the site, and what is being replied to you.

For this, you can set the search:

to this:

“site name” OR “niche” OR to:username

If you own a local business, it may be best to only include results for within a number of miles of your city:

“products” near:city within 15mi

will do the job.

This will display all the information within a single column, making it easier to follow and more importantly, easier to reply to. If the search column becomes too clumped, don’t worry. You are allowed to have as many search columns as you please.
