Why You Should Use a Dedicated IP Address

Many question whether shared IP addresses have affect on search results. In most cases, it doesn’t; however, there is a slight chance that it can.

Problems caused by shared IP addresses
If you have no control over what sites share the IP, the IP has the possibility of being considered a ‘bad neighborhood’ by search engines. Pornography or black hat websites can cause damage to other websites on the same IP address by association.

Which brings me to the next problem
Site association. Not only can your site be associated with bad neighborhoods, but also be associated with your other sites. This can cause problems such as possible supplemental results, devaluing of links (if links are pointed at one another). As well, if you run AdSense or other contextual sites, site association can cause non-targeted ads to appear.

Why use a dedicated IP address?
Dedicated IP addresses are generally cheap and have the possibility of adding SEO value. Sites which have unique IP addresses can be seen as more valuable due to site trustworthy. Just think, which would you rather buy from: A) a site which is on the same IP as 100 other websites which include porn, spam sites and totally unrelated sites or B) a site which has its own IP address. Google along with other major search engines take visitor trust into account.
